Perhaps one of the most well-known gemstones, Amethysts have been used for over 2000 years, not only for adornments but also as a powerful healing mediator.
They belong to the quartz family and they are formed inside the cavities of the Basalt Rock.
The word Amethyst comes from the Greek amethystos which means 'remedy against drunkenness' as Ancients Greeks and Romans believed that Amethysts were important to prevent them from drunkenness and intoxication, keeping them conscious and grounded in spiritual thoughts.
In traditional Chinese medicine, amethyst is prescribed for stomach pains and bad dreams. It may also be used for the healing of illnesses of the lungs. It is believed that having the crystal closer to your core helps detoxify the body.
In today’s times, Amethysts are still associated with spirituality and serenity. Amethysts carry the energy of fire and passion, creativity and spirituality; yet maintaining the prudence and sobriety.
They are the birthstone for February but on the zodiac, the gemstone is also related to Virgo, Capricorn and pieces.
Rough or polished, In our daily lives is recommended to keep an Amethyst next to your pillow if facing sleeping issues or holding one while meditating as they are known for its metaphysical capacity of calming the mind, helping us to achieve inspiring and strengthening the meditative state.
